Ponta Brasil Beach Resort is situated on Praia do Cajueiro in the North-East state of Rio Grande de Norte and lies about 5 kms along the main highway from Touros, the principal town of the region. It is also approximately 90kms from Natal airport and can be reached in just over an hour by car.The main highway,BR101,is a very good road and once out of Natal city limits it is often very quiet and free of heavy traffic. The Ponta Brasil Management company will provide, for a small fee,a transfer service to/from the airport so you can expect a totally trouble free journey to your beachfront apartment. A short distance away to the West lies the fishing village of Cajueiro, which remains totally unspoilt and as such has changed little in the last 30 years. The village has a few small bars including Pedro´s bar which lies right on the beach front and where a litre of premium beer costs 60 pence!
Further to the West and just over 10 kms away lies the up and coming town of Sao Miguel de Gostoso which now has a rapidly growing infrastructure as well as many delightful beaches, bars restaurants and pousadas.
To the East of Ponta Brasil and approx 5kms by road and 4 kms on foot along the beach, lies the town of Touros. Here you can buy a wide range of absolutely fresh fish and seafood, including lobster, crab, octopus, prawns and mussels for unbelievably cheap prices. You can also find a number of beachfront restaurants, serving freshly caught seafood.Touros has several small supermarkets, whre you can find all your weekly groceries as well as an extensive range of fruit and vegetables all at very reasonable prices ( eg.a medium-sized papaya for 30p,a juicy fresh pineapple for 25p and avocados the size of a small melon for 35p)There are also several clothes shops, pharmacies, bakeries etc and, aside from designer-labelled goods, you can buy virtually everything you need to enjoy your holiday.
At the time of writing, there is a large new development being built between Cajueiro and Sao Miguel de Gosotoso, which will contain a shopping complex and golf course,to which it is planned that Ponta Brasil residents will have access.
For those in search of more specific items,or a trip to the metropolis of Natal, this can be done in little over an hour.(see notes on Natal).Along the way, there are many side roads leading to other local villages and beaches where you can enjoy a pleasant lunch before continuing your journey.Closer to Natal lies the small town of Pitangui which has a very picturesque fresh water lake where you can actually eat your lunch at tables and chairs situated in the water - you need do no more than fall off your chair if you need to cool off!!!
There is much to do in the area and many visitors enjoy a day or more going out across the sand dunes in a buggy. The State of Rio Grande de Norte is renowned for its dunes but many are only accessible by buggy or by 4x4 vehicles.Professional buggy drivers know the area well and are always very accommodating and ensure that you have an enjoyable, and at times hair-raising,experience.
